Steam’s November 2022 survey identified two unreleased Mac models that were collecting anonymous information from eager Steam users about certain details of their computers, including their computer model, CPU type, memory, and more.

Inside November 2022 surveyThe two unreleased Macs with the identifiers “Mac14.6” and “Mac15.4” corresponded to the bottom of the list, along with their model identifiers: Mac Studio13 inches M2 MacBook Pro, ‌M2‌ Macbook Airand other models.

Both “Mac14.6” and “Mac15.4” are listed with 0% usage on Steam, but their positions on the list suggest that Apple may be testing unreleased Macs on Steam’s gaming platform with upcoming Apple silicon chips.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen references to an unannounced Mac with the model identifier “Mac14.6”. Same identifier seen in two separate places (one,2Geekbench scores entries with the “M2” Max chip, which is likely to rank first in upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Apple was expected to announce updated MacBook Pro models in the fall of this year, but then postponed plans until 2023.

Upcoming Macs are expected to feature ‌M2‌ Pro and ‌M2‌ Max chips with faster performance and possible options for higher memory configurations. Apple announced the redesigned “MacBook Air” and “M2” chip in June, marking the beginning of the second-generation Apple silicon that debuted in the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
