■ Two Ways to Change and Expand RPG Maker UniteIts functionality!

Method 1.Using “Add-ons”

Inside RPGMaker series, users have always been able to develop and use scripts, known in the community as “plugins”, to extend engine functions that are not available by default. For this reason, many users volunteer to develop plugins and generously share them with the community. RPGMaker series has spawned many great titles even as of now!

Similarly, in RPG Maker Unite, users can use “Plugins” to improve and extend the engine. We changed the name because the internal rendering works differently than in the past. RPGMaker titles, but the concept and usage are the same. However, as always, please note that we cannot provide official support for the development or use of Add-ons. We have briefly mentioned here our announcement On September 2, 2022.

Method 2.Rewriting Source Code Via Unity Editor

The second option, for which we cannot provide official support for both, is to edit. RPG Maker UniteDirect source code using Unity Editor. Inside RPG Maker Unite, users can call the Unity Editor UI as needed at any time. In this way, users can approve and rewrite part of the source code as they see fit (Note: some DLLs are excluded). This is especially useful for large-scale changes! While the source code is available for viewing in the Unity Editor, please abide by the EULAs we’ll be posting later!

■ Which Method to Choose?

Direct editing through both Plugins and Unity uses the C# programming language. However, there are clear reasons to prefer one over the other, depending on the user’s level of knowledge or goals.

The biggest difference is whether users want to change it or not. RPG Maker Unite‘s source code directly or not.

Plugins are inherently immutable RPG Maker Uniteis source code and therefore does not cause conflicts caused by Source Code changes. This is great for independently developing multiple Plugins at once. Just using other people’s Plugins is as easy as ever and doesn’t require any programming or Unity Editor knowledge. Also, since when there is an official update, the source code has not been tampered with. RPG Maker Unite, users can also safely apply. (Note: Some Add-ons may need some updates to be compatible with the latest updates.)

On the other hand, modifying the source code directly through the Unity Editor will give users an unprecedented amount of freedom. Naturally, this will require fairly advanced programming skills and a deep knowledge of how the Unity Editor works. RPG Maker Unite Works.
