Thorley Industries and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Monday that more than 2 million MamaRoo swings and RockaRoo rockers have been recalled following a choking death, which was 10 months old and a close call involved another child.
The recall includes 2 million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers sold by Thorley’s 4moms line at BuyBuy Baby and Target stores nationwide, as well as online at 4moms.com and Amazon. Swingers and rockers sold for $160 to $250 from January 2010 to August 2022. don’t notice Published by CPSC.
The agency and Pennsylvania-based company said 60,000 MamaRoo swings and 10,000 RockaRoo rockers have been sold in Canada.
4moms has received two reports of babies getting tangled in the strap under an empty MamaRoo baby swing after crawling under the seat of the product. A 10-month-old baby choked to death, and another 10-month-old baby had bruises on her neck before being rescued by a caregiver, they said.

The recall includes MamaRoo models that use three-point harnesses: versions 1.0 and 2.0 (model number 4M-005), version 3.0 (model number 1026), and version 4.0 (model number 1037). The recalled RockaRoo rocker has model number 4M-012 located on its bottom.
Families with babies who can crawl should stop using recalled swings and rockers and put them out of reach of babies. Those who own recalled items can sign up for a free strap buckle to keep the straps from extending out from under the swing when not in use.
“We are deeply saddened by two incidents that occurred while babies were crawling under the seat of empty MamaRoo swings,” said Gary Waters, CEO of 4moms, in an emailed statement. “The free belt attachment kit we designed is an easy-to-install solution that we believe will prevent further incidents from happening,” he added.

The agency and companies said parents and caregivers should never use inclined products (including rocking chairs, gliders, pacifiers and swings) for infant sleep, and should also never leave babies unattended or with bedding supplies due to the risk of suffocation.
