in front of the audience CES 2023 Here at its consumer tech show held in Las Vegas, LG previewed a few details about its new OLED televisions, along with more hands-on time and future specs. (I’ll be there in person to see them in action.) One of the most notable models will be the successor to the C3. best high end TV for moneyalso a G3 model that promises enhanced brightness.
The biggest difference between current LG OLED TVs and new ones is the higher brightness on the G3. New light control architecture and light reinforcement algorithms increase brightness by up to 70% on 55, 65 and 77-inch G3 models.
OLED TVs offer better overall picture quality more than any other high-end TV, and in my experience it’s already too bright for most lighting environments. Every bit — er, thread — brightness, however, especially in bright rooms and HDR TV shows and movies and perhaps the G3 will match or exceed the light output of its competitors. QD-OLED models From Sony and Samsung. They still won’t come close mini LED settings like Samsung QN90B and Hisense U8H However, it can achieve twice the brightness of any OLED TV. LG doesn’t mention higher brightness for other models, including the C3.
None of the other improvements LG teases are what I would call significant. The TVs have a new “α9 AI Processor Gen6”, but in my past testing it was difficult to discern the better processing. The company also gave the G3 a design that, when mounted to the wall, wraps it closer to the wall than before “with no visible gaps”. According to the press release, the company’s disliked smart TV system has been tweaked to add better categorization, personalized recommendations, and a “trend content selection.”

LG G3 has enhanced brightness and is mounted closer to the wall.

LG also says its 2023 OLED TVs will “be the first TV approved by the HDMI organization for Quick Media Switching VRR, which can eliminate the momentary ‘black screen’ that sometimes occurs when switching between content played from different source devices connected via TVs. HDMI 2.1a compliant.” ports.” This (again minor) feature, designed for video playback unlike gaming and requires a QMS-VRR source device — Apple TV 4K for example getting support soon.
For the past few years, LG’s OLED TVs, particularly the “C” models, have provided the best picture quality for the money among high-end TVs, and I expect the C3 to compete for that honor once again. That said, the LG C2 from 2022 remains my favourite, and none of the improvements so far seem significant enough to suggest I wait for the C3.
LG hasn’t announced specific sizes, prices, or availability for its 2023 OLED TVs, but the G3 and Z3 will undoubtedly cost more than the C3. The company usually doesn’t announce prices on its TVs until it hits stores in the spring. In the meantime, I hope to get more information and hands-on impressions of the new models in the next few days as CES begins.
