The 53-year-old journalist and helicopter pilot recalled that at the age of 18 he aspired to become a flight attendant, but lost a position at Southwest Airlines in 1989 after failing a mandatory weigh-in.
“They were weighing you back then, and I was 121 pounds,” the Emmy Award winner said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “They said, ‘You have to be 115’.”

Sánchez said he would have reacted differently if this had happened now.
The media personality told the airline, “I don’t want to be a stewardess. I want to be a pilot!”
Until the 1990s, many airlines had strict height and weight requirements for flight attendants and mandatory weighing.
According to this Southwest Airlines’ career page, flight attendant candidates “should be proportionate to their weight and height in such a way that they maintain a decent appearance and do not interfere with the performance of all job functions.”
In addition, job seekers “must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds off the ground to shoulder level when needed.”
A Southwest Airlines representative did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Sánchez went on to become a reporter and host for KTVK in Phoenix, Arizona, and later worked on Fox Sports Net, Fox 11 and Extra in Los Angeles.

The New Mexico native, whose parents are pilots, received his helicopter pilot’s license in 2016. She later founded Black Ops Aviation, a women-owned aerial film and production company.
Sánchez said he tries to fly at least three times a week to stay up to date, and he often gets into the cockpit to fly 59-year-old Bezos and his families around the world.
“I don’t know why more women aren’t doing this,” she told the WSJ.
This former guest of “The View” Noticing the lack of other women-owned aviation companies, she announced that she founded Black Ops Aviation.
“Less than nine percent of the pilots are women,” he said. “That’s it! Even fewer helicopter pilots out there. How many female pilots do you see in each movie? What do you see? You see male pilots. And so [women] They don’t know what they can do.”
Sánchez said they were surprised and impressed when they learned that other women were pilots.
“They were shocked!” said. “‘What? You’re such a nuisance!’ And I want to say it’s really not that hard. I want more women to be involved in it.”
Sánchez told the WSJ she is very excited about plans to lead an all-female space mission to space at Blue Origin, which will take place by 2024.
“There will be women in the world who make a difference, are influential, and have a message to send,” she said.
Five women will join Sánchez on the mission, but their names won’t be revealed until the launch date approaches.

Although Sánchez said that Bezos had obtained his pilot’s license, he said the Amazon founder would not agree with him. on duty.
“Even though he wants to get on this plane, I’ll have to hold him back,” Sánchez said. “He’ll applaud us all from the sidelines.”
Sánchez and Bezos made their relationship public in 2019 when they divorced ex-spouses Patrick Whitesell and MacKenzie Scott.

The former publisher said that working with Bezos on the Blue Origin mission and other projects has been “the greatest experience I’ve ever had.”
“I’ve always had a very separate career from my partner,” he said. “I think now I can work with my partner and always be with him… We love being together and working together.”
